Ha! It's widely understood in my circle of friends that this is the true, and only, definition of a 'good cover version', i.e. when you can make something even better than the original.
It took a while to find a good vintage retro pulp paperback cover for this, since there aren't good tags in the genre to identify 'rogue', 'scoundrel', 'gigolo', 'cad', 'scumbag', or any of the other terms that might describe the kind of personality that Gaye is talking about in this song, but I found this one and reckon the look on his face is pitch-perfect.
So if you're shopping for something ultra-cool for the 80s New Wave fan in your life (mayhap that's you!) then you finally got to the right place. Long end of the tail!
