IN THE GRAND TRADITION OF EIGHT MEN OUT . . .
the untold story of baseball's ORIGINAL SCANDAL

Did the Chicago Cubs throw the World Series in 1918--and get away with it?

Who were the players involved--and why did they do it?

Were gambling and corruption more widespread across the leagues than previously believed?

Were the players and teams "cursed" by their actions?

Finally, is it time to rewrite baseball history?

With exclusive access to surprising new evidence, Sporting News reporter Sean Deveney details a scandal at the core of baseball's greatest folklore--in a golden era as exciting and controversial as our sports world today. This inside look at the pivotal year of 1918 proves that baseball has always been a game overrun with colorful characters, intense human drama, and explosive controversy.

"The Original Curse is not just about baseball. It is a sweeping portrait of America at war in 1918. . . . In the end, the proper question is not, 'How could a player from that era fix the World Series?' It's, 'How could he not?'"
--Ken Rosenthal, FOX Sports, from the Introduction

"Sean Deveney plays connect-the-dots in this intriguing account of a possible conspiracy to throw the 1918 World Series. Thoroughly researched and well written, The Original Curse is a must-read for baseball fans and anyone who loves a good mystery. Is Max Flack the Shoeless Joe of the 1918 Cubs? Deveney lays out the case and let's readers decide if the fix was in."
--Paul Sullivan, Cubs beat writer, Chicago Tribune

"This book gives the reader a fun and honest look at baseball as it used to be-- the good guys, the gamblers, the cheaters, the drunks, the inept leaders. But, more than that, it puts those characters into the context of Chicago, Boston and America at the time of World War I, and you wind up with a unique way to explain the motivations of those characters."
--David Kaplan, host, Chicago Tribune Live and WGN's Sports Central

"Deveney's painstaking study of the 1918 World Series between the Cubs and Red Sox argues that the Black Sox scandal was not an aberration and might have had an antecedent. Deveney's scholarship does not detract from his ability to spin a good tale: his tendency to imagine players' conversations will remind readers of Leigh Montville's The Big Bam: The Life and Times of Babe Ruth.... A welcome companion to Susan Dellinger's Red Legs and Black Sox: Edd Roush and the Untold Story of the 1919 World Series, Deveney's book contributes greatly to our understanding of this decisive period in baseball and American morals."

Good, Even for Sensitive Skin
Size: 1.7 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I have been using this sunscreen every day with good results. It goes on smoothly, absorbs rapidly with no grease or leftover film, and it feels moisturizing. I have sensitive skin in general, and this does not irritate my skin whatsoever. It certainly exceeds my expectations.

A great sunscreen I have used for years!
Size: 1.7 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
This is a product I have used with great success over the years and keep coming back to. Neutrogena is just a brand I really have trusted since my teenaged years of using their glycerin soap. This product does not disappoint. It dries down clear and moisturizes your face in preparation for makeup. I really appreciate that it plays well layering all my products and makeup like some sunscreens do. I also love the higher SPF of the product. I feel like the higher the better when it comes to the damaging sun. There is one thing I do not care for, and that is the smell. It has a strong smell at first when put on, but luckily quickly becomes unnoticeable, otherwise, I wouldn’t buy it. If I had to pick one sunscreen for my face forever, this would be it.

Wears well under makeup!
Size: 1.7 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
Package arrived on time. No damages and product was in great condition. Pro: Goes on smoothly. Nice coverage. No white cast. Is fragrance free--no weird smell. Washes off easily with a cleansing oil or balm. Great on my sensitive skin! Wears well under my makeup, and it sat well over my vitamin c serum, too. This sunscreen layers with other face moisturizer really well! Con: I can't wear it around eyes; it causes stingy/ burning eyes. But, I have sensitive eyes ( sunscreens or mascara).

* Horrible eye pain! * Made my face glow! Great for dry skin as a moisturizer spf
Size: 1.7 Fl Oz (Pack of 1), Size: 1.7 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
Update* After actually wearing it all day reaction - I wore this in the semi-sun to the beach just to walk to shoreline, not actually sitting in sun or getting into water just a 30 minute walk, and by one hour in my eye started to swell and both eyes were in horrible pain. I had to go was my face and eyes as well as put in repeated cosine to help my eyes. My eyes even over night after thorough washing and cleaning still have a slight pain to them. This also clogged some pores and made me itch and break out. I think if you are going to be in AC and no hint of sun or sweat this would be okay. However if you are buying to walk around in any kind of sun this may not be it. For me personally I will be returning. I was hoping this would’ve worked for me. I love neutrogena products but the reaction to my eyes impossible to use for me. First initial opening and putting in my face reaction- Very light weight. Smaller size than I realized. Makes my skin have a sheen soft glow. I would highly recommend for those who have dry skin. If you have naturally oily skin this may have a little too much sheen in it for you all. It does make my face feel absolutely baby soft. I was looking for a moisturizing spf for my face that doesn’t turn my skin white or cake on and over my skin and this is great. I will try it in the sun today and see how it lasts and works. No white at all which I absolutely love. Feels great in my skin. Fragrance free has barely any smell to it which is also nice. Oxybenzone free. It is slowly drying into my skin which is nice. I do not believe it is water or sweat proof so you will have to reapply. It hasn’t hurt my eyes so far but I will update when I am out in the sun to share more feedback if this feedback isn’t the same. Overall very happy.
