How does it work?
The principle of hair removal is the theory of selective photothermolysis (SPTL), which was published by Anderson and Parrish in Science magazine, in 1983. The theory interprets lasers as a method of producing localized tissue damage leaving the surrounding tissues unaffected.
This means that if we apply appropriate wavelength light to the treatment area, melanin in hair follicles, rather than other tissues, will be selected to absorb the light, and then convert light into heat energy. Hair follicles that support hair growth will be destroyed, resulting in hair loss or permanent hair removal.
Why 808nm?
The ideal wavelength for hair removal should be mostly absorbed by melanin, not by other tissues (like water, oxyhemoglobin, etc).
808nm wavelength semiconductor laser goes through our skin and directly arrives at the melanin in the hair follicle with little absorbed by other tissues. The heat energy transformed from the light will burn and destroy only the follicles, thus avoiding any thermal damage to the surrounding skin and lessening the risk skin hyper-pigmentation, which makes it an ideal choice for all skin types.
