This range consists of the four most common colours found in the soil surrounding Yirrkala- the warm chalk Watharr, the yellow ochre Ganggul, the red ochre Miku, and the deep carbon black Gurrngan, the same pigments used in 1963 in the creation of the famous Yirrkala bark petitions which galvanised the movement for recognition of Aboriginal Land Rights.
