Healing Injuries

The red light therapy technology used by Viorelli has been shown to aid in injury recovery by promoting healing and reducing inflammation. When the red light is applied to the affected area, it penetrates the skin and stimulates the pro- duction of ATP, which is a molecule that provides energy to cells. This boost in cellular energy can help improve circulation, increase the production of collagen, and accelerate tissue repair.

Additionally, red light therapy has been shown to decrease inflammation by reducing the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and increasing the activity of anti-inflammatory cytokines. This reduction in inflammation can help alleviate pain, swelling, and stiffness associated with injuries.

One of the main ways that red light therapy works to reduce pain and inflammation is by increasing blood flow to the affected area. This increased circulation helps to deliver more oxygen and nutrients to the injured tissues, promoting faster healing and reducing inflammation.

Several studies have shown that red light therapy can be an effective treatment option for a range of conditions that involve pain and inflammation, such as arthritis, tendonitis, and carpal tunnel syndrome. In some cases, red light therapy may be used in combination with other treatments, such as physical therapy or medication, to enhance its effectiveness. Overall, red light therapy is a safe and effective modality for improving recovery time and reducing pain and inflammation in injured tissues.

How to Use

  1. Connect the remote control cable to the DC power port on the red therapy knee wrap.
  2. Connect the power adapter to the female DC input at the end of the remote control cable.
  3. Plug the power adapter into a power socket.
  4. Press the “On/Pulse/Off” button to turn on the knee wrap. Press a second time to turn on the pulse function.
  5. Press “Mode Button” to toggle through the three modes:
    - Red mode (660nm)
    - Infrared mode (850nm)
    - Red + Infrared mode (660+850nm).
  6. Press “time button”to set the time duration from 5–30 minutes, in 5-minute increments. The default time is 5 minutes.

Usage

We usually recommend that you take about 20 to 30 minutes for home or in-office sessions, usually, 1-2 times in one day.

Please note that near-infrared LEDs appear unlit because they’re invisible to the naked eye.

The red therapy device is designed to wrap around the affected area and offers an innovative and targeted approach to joint health and wellness. It utilises two specific frequencies of light, 660nm and 850nm, each offering its own set of benefits.

660nm (Red Light):

  • Reduced Inflammation: This wavelength can help in reducing inflammation in the elbow and knee, which can be particularly beneficial for conditions like arthritis or tendonitis.
  • Pain Relief: It has been shown to alleviate pain by promoting the release of natural pain-relievers within the body.
  • Increased Blood Flow: The red light boosts circulation in the targeted area, which can speed up the healing process and enhance joint function.

850nm (Near-Infrared Light):

  • Deep Tissue Healing: Near-infrared light penetrates deeper into the tissues than red light. It can promote cellular repair and regeneration, making it particularly useful for healing injuries that affect not just the surface, but deeper structures like tendons and ligaments.
  • Joint Support: By improving the health of the tissues within the joint, this wavelength can contribute to better joint mobility and function.
  • Muscle Recovery: The 850nm light can also support muscle recovery by reducing muscle spasms and soreness.

Pulsing Option

The pulsing at 10 MHz helps in providing intermittent energy which can be more effective in promoting healing processes within the body. The combination of the two frequencies, coupled with the pulsing, makes this device a powerful tool in the management of joint health, especially for people dealing with chronic joint conditions, athletes, or those recovering from joint-related injuries.

More about pulsed light:

Pulsing light at 10 MHz, known as pulsed electromagnetic field therapy (PEMF), is a technique used to optimise the therapeutic effects of light therapy. Pulsing the light at such high frequencies can have several benefits:

  • Enhanced Cellular Response: Pulsing at 10 MHz creates brief but intense bursts of energy that can more effectively stimulate cellular activity. This makes cells more responsive to the therapy, which can enhance the healing process and contribute to pain relief.
  • Reduced Risk of Heat Build-up: Continuous light exposure can cause heat to build up in the tissues, which may lead to discomfort. Pulsing the light ensures that the tissues have time to dissipate heat between pulses, reducing the risk of heat build-up.
  • Increased Penetration Depth: The intensity of the pulses can enable the light to penetrate deeper into the tissues. This is beneficial for targeting deeper structures such as tendons, ligaments, and muscles.
  • Optimization of Energy Use: By only delivering light in short pulses, the device uses energy more efficiently. This means that more energy can be delivered to the tissues in a shorter amount of time, which can shorten treatment times and make the therapy more convenient.
  • Avoiding Cellular Adaptation: When cells are continuously exposed to a stimulus, they can become less responsive to it over time. By pulsing the light, the therapy can avoid this adaptation effect, maintaining the cells’ responsiveness to the treatment.
  • Enhanced Oxygenation and Blood Flow: The pulsing action can create a pumping effect which helps in promoting blood circulation. Improved blood flow ensures that more oxygen and nutrients are delivered to the cells, which can further enhance the healing process.

Using the device

  • Step 1 – Connect either the mains plug supply or the USB power supply (please note some smaller laptops might not have sufficient power to power up the device)
  • Step 2 – Press the power button and you will see the word ALL (this means has selected both red light and the invisible near infra red)
  • Step 3 (optional) – If you would like to change the length of treatment from the 1 hour default, use the left hand timer button)
  • Step 4 (optional)  Use the top button to increase the intensity
  • Step 5 (optional) – If you ONLY want to use either the red light therapy or the near infra-red therapy, you can select this using the right button
  • Step 6 (optional) – If you want to use the pulsing effect you can select it by clicking the on/off button twice

Research in this area:

Michael Hamblin, M.D., an associate professor at Harvard Medical School, has conducted comprehensive research into the effectiveness of specific wavelengths in the natural light spectrum. His studies highlight that 660 nanometers (Red Light) and 850 nanometers (Near Infrared Light) are particularly beneficial at a cellular level. The 660 nm wavelength, which is easily absorbed by the skin, is optimal for cosmetic applications. Conversely, the 850 nm wavelength delves deeper into the body, proving beneficial for muscle recovery, alleviation of joint pain and inflammation, and promoting overall bodily health.

Weight Loss

Red light therapy, or photobiomodulation, has been explored as a potential tool for weight loss. Though it should not be considered a standalone solution for losing weight, when combined with a balanced diet and regular physical activity, it might enhance the outcomes.

Here's how red light therapy may contribute to weight loss:

  • Enhanced Metabolic Activity: Red light therapy is thought to stimulate the mitochondria in cells, increasing their energy production. This boost in cellular energy may lead to an increase in metabolism, which can help the body burn calories more efficiently.
  • Fat Cell Reduction: Some studies have suggested that red light therapy can affect adipocytes, which are the cells that store fat. It is believed that exposure to red light causes the fat cells to release some of their contents, which are then metabolised and eliminated from the body.
  • Reduced Inflammation and Improved Hormonal Balance: Chronic inflammation and hormonal imbalances can make it difficult for some individuals to lose weight. By reducing inflammation and potentially helping to balance hormones, red light therapy could make it easier for the body to shed excess pounds.
  • Appetite Regulation: Though the evidence is limited, some studies suggest that red light therapy might have an effect on the hormones that control appetite, which could potentially lead to reduced food intake.

Short term fun ending in stuffing everywhere
My dog loved the toys, from the start he grabbed them and ran off to play. However the quality just doesn't hold up to a 7 month old 42 pound mixed doggie. The star toy broke immediately and I had to throw bits of the plastic away. He did enjoy ripping the other toys and pulling out all the stuffing. I did not enjoy picking it all up on the yard. For the price it was OK, but didn't last long and needs supervision for the inevitable destruction. At least he enjoyed them while they lasted, which is why they got 3 stars instead of 2.

Puppy Love..!!
My 3.5 months old puppy actually likes chewing on these toys - both wet and frozen or just dry. A good choice! The puppy hasn’t attempted to chew up any other “off limits” items. This puppy is a large breed weighing in at 26lbs and the toys have held up. The product is built to last!! Thanks for a rough and tough chew toy!
