The African Wild Ass, a tough and adaptable animal, roams the arid plains of northeastern Africa and is a close relative of the zebra. In fact, they are both part of the horse family, Equidae! Although the African Wild Ass doesn't have the bold stripes that zebras are famous for, it does sport some lovely, subtle stripes on its legs that hint at this family connection. These animals are exceptional survivors, able to thrive in harsh environments where water is scarce.
