About Jeannie

Jeannie Petyarre (Pitjara) was born in c.1956 on the Boundary Bore Outstation of Utopia in Central Australia. An established artist in Utopia, Jeannie is the niece of the late Emily Kame Kngwarreye. In the early 1980s, when Jeannie was living at Boundary Bore Outstation with her family, husband Henry Long Kemarre, and their six children, Jeannie was introduced to the art of Batik. Jeannie was encouraged by her aunt, Emily Kngwarreye to continue to paint her family's Yam Dreaming. In 1990, her work was chosen to be part of the Robert Holmes à Court Collection, which toured extensively and was featured in their book "Utopia - A Picture Story". All of Jeannie's Dreamtime stories come from the Alhalkere Country and are passed down to her from her father's side.

Jeannie paints the Yam Seed, Yam Leaf, Yam Flower Dreamings, body paint, Mountain Devil Lizard, and My Country Dreamings. Jeannie's tribal name is "Angiltha" which means little lizard.

About the artwork

The Yam story is well represented further south on the Utopia Homelands of Central Australia, where the artists show the ceremonial links of the Anmatyerre people to the Yam as a source of sustenance in the desert. Artists like Emily Kngwarreye, Galya Pwerle, Gloria Petyarre, Jeannie Mills Pwerle and Rosemary Petyarre have established their own styles of paintings of the Yam and the women’s ceremonies associated with Yam Dreaming. Their depictions of the Yam Seed and Yam Flower are aspects of interest in the fertility of the Yam plant, and the paintings serve as ceremonies do also, to celebrate and promote the abundance of the Yam.

History

Jeannie has participated in various group exhibitions around Australia and several exhibitions toured the USA, United Arab Emirates, France, Italy, Turkey, and China. Some of her paintings are held in well-known and highly regarded collections such as the Holmes à Court Collection and the National Gallery of Australia.

Didn't last one day.
Size: Large, Style: Duck Slingshot, Size: Large, Style: Duck Slingshot
Didn't last even an hour. This damage wasn't from the dog either, it looks like it let loose from the stress of just trying to launch it! It doesn't fly near as far as the discontinued Pig Slingshot toy. Bring back the pig, please. I also ordered the other listed Hyper Pet flying fowl, and it flew the same distance as this one, and has lasted through the day (but needs to be heavier). But for this one, perhaps they needed to double stitch the area under the 'chin'? I'll try to return it. It looks like it should be more durable, but at least that part isn't. Second one: I chose the replacement, instead of a refund because my dog loves me shooting the toys into the yard. He saw the new duck, and was excited. Six shots in and the seam on the bottom of the head was already separating. By 10 or so times, it was getting concerning as the seams were opening enough I was concerned that it would lose its filling. I'm disappointed, and so is my dog. Just in case anyone is wondering, I never let him alone with this, and still feel, even more so, that the failure is the stitching on the bottom of the head, right at the point where the most stresses of launching it are focused. I'd strongly recommend that Hyper Pet use two layers of full canvas over that area, and also Bring Back The Slingshot Pig, PLEASE... The second picture is the second Duck, and my 7 month old. He wasn't ready to end the session. The problem, for us, is that the 'dog run' isn't very long, and all of the other toys I have are bazooka style launching devices that I can't use yet as they would fly far over the fence. Ironically one is from Hyper Pet, and is amazing. Works so well. Too well?

Not for labrador chewing.
Size: One Size, Style: Stick, Size: One Size, Style: Stick
Not recommended for a Labrador if they enjoy retrieving then chewing, because the stick will only last 20-30mins. The stick does float, and is hollow which is good when it’s been bitten down to ball size.

Great toy except the stitching
Size: Large, Style: Duck Slingshot, Size: Large, Style: Duck Slingshot
Excellent toy. My Lab immediately loved it and I used it to get her to swim for the first time! However, after just one use, the stitching started coming apart under the head. I wish it had been more durable, my dog loves it.

My dogs love these.
Size: One Size, Style: Stick
My dogs are chewers and we use these for the dogs to chase them into the lake. They float well and are easy to see. Even if they start to chew on them they are substantial enough to last through the summer. The dogs love them. We’ve been using them for several summers now but hide them until it is time to play fetch in the water again.

Good for swimming
Size: One Size, Style: Stick
This is my dog's favorite toy for dock diving. It's lightweight but a good solid size for retrieving and it floats with no issue. I do have to keep it put away when not swimming or he'll tear it to pieces so if you have a dog that likes to destroy toys, just be mindful.
