Its color is a soft tan to peachy light brown color with subtle darker brown streaks of mineralization and a bit of black line spalting. The wood grain has a pleasant and gracefully flowing pattern. Pecan Bowl Blank P-467 3.5" x 6" x 6" 2.5 lbs. This is a small half-log bowl blank of Texas-grown Pecan wood. Its color is a soft tan to peachy light brown color with subtle darker-brown streaks of mineralization and a bit of black-line spalting. The wood grain has a pleasant and gracefully flowing pattern. It has nearly complete bark on the back side, although it is a bit loose and needs to be secured prior to turning. This half-log bowl blank should be suitable for a bowl 6" in diameter and up to 3" deep. With the bark on the backside, you have the option of turning a conventional bowl or a "barky" natural-edge bowl. However, if you want a full bark edge on the "natural" rim, you will need to secure the bark with CA glue before and possibly during turning. This piece is GREEN to partially air-dried, meaning that it still retains a lot of its original moisture from when it was a living tree. Moisture content was 20-25% when measured in May, 2022. It has been well-sealed and is in the process of slowly drying. It was heat-treated to kill off any hungry critters that may have been burrowing inside. If you need a current moisture content, please message us and we'll check its status for you. This is a classic half-log blank, split through the center of the log. It does have a sliver of pith in it and has a few cracks developing that radiate out from the remnant pith. You will probably want to reinforce these with CA glue prior to turning. I'm taking plenty of photos of this piece, so please scroll down below the first 3 photos to see more. About the Tree This Texas-grown Pecan tree was harvested in Fresno Texas in December, 2021. It was in a residential neighborhood where it had been planted near a home that was built in the 1930s. Over the years, the small Pecan tree grew large, and it threatened the house. The homeowners reluctantly called their tree company to cut down the tree and stack the wood for us to recover. We're always happy to save wood from the firepit or city dump. Their trash is now yours to treasure! |

It's holding up better than I thought it would

I originally gave this toy a 1 star rating. I changed that to a 4. Even though my dog immediately put holes in it, it's still holding up. She absolutely loves her Snakey, and takes it to bed with her. She hasn't even chewed the eyes off, like she would normally do. There's even still a piece of the tongue left lol!
I gave this to my dog tonight. She's already torn a hole in the tail. I just found a hole next to a squeaker, and she's almost chewed the tongue off.
This toy is not durable at all. I do not recommend this for any dog that likes to chew.

Not recommended for an aggressive chewer.

24 hrs. after giving this to my Frenchton, all 3 squeakers were out and disabled, one foot remained, head was half way off, back end was chewed away. This alligator is no match for an aggressive chewer.

It is good for tug a war
