Even with the passage of many decades, the records made by Aaronson and company are still dynamic, lively fun. They're so exciting, and they capture the spirit of the Twenties so well, that modern-day filmmakers frequently use them to instantly create that "Jazz Age" atmosphere. More than eighty years after its heyday, Aaronson's group is still an entertaining band.
This disc, the second of four containing the band's complete recorded output in chronological order, traces Aaronson's Commanders from mid-1928 (in the midst of the band's appearance in the Broadway smash Paris) through end of 1932, when the original incarnation of the Commanders broke up. All of the recordings have been meticulously remastered from the best available sources, and the collection includes two ultra rare complete short film soundtracks. Rounding out this definitive package is a lavish 32-page booklet with rare photographs and in-depth commentary by Aaronson expert Randy Skretvedt. 62 minutes.
