PRS S2 Vela brings the company’s offset body to center stage with a voice that is quick, punchy, and easy to place in a mix. This is the original Vela blueprint, conceived to feel instantly familiar under the right hand while offering a leaner, more percussive response than a typical dual humbucker setup. It is the kind of guitar that rewards precise picking and does not ask for babysitting.
The body is mahogany with an asymmetric bevel carved top that trims weight and softens the forearm edge without choking resonance. Scale length is the PRS standard 25 inches, which keeps string tension balanced across gauges and tunings. The PRS plate style bridge couples a steel base to compensated brass saddles for cut and sustain, and it is a top loader for quick string changes between songs.
Neck specs aim at long set comfort. A mahogany neck carved to Pattern Regular fills the hand without feeling bulky. The rosewood fingerboard carries 22 frets on a 10-inch radius with Birds inlays. Nut width is 1 21/32 inches, which gives the wound strings a touch more room while keeping first position chords tidy. PRS low mass locking tuners reduce headstock weight and keep tuning predictable under bends and heat.
Electronics define the Vela’s personality. A PRS DS 01 in the bridge delivers a dry, immediate attack that holds detail under gain and keeps rhythm parts tight. The PRS Narrowfield in the neck is compact and articulate, so extended chords remain readable and single note lines do not smear. Controls are deliberately straightforward. Master volume, a push pull tone to split the bridge coil, and a three-way toggle cover the essential voices without menu diving.
Finished in Scarlet Sunburst high gloss nitro and supplied in a premium gig bag, PRS S2 Vela is a direct, stage ready offset that favors focus over flash. It records cleanly, takes pedals well, and does the job night after night without drama.
