This ushabti statue was meticulously crafted with amazing hieroglyphic and scarab details. This statue is handmade from ceramic and features a finish that evokes the faience used by the ancients. It measures 6.5 inches tall, 1.75 inches wide, and 1.25 inches deep. Made in Luxor, Egypt, and collected by me during one of my buying trips to Egypt over the past 40 years.
Ushabtis were placed in tombs among the grave goods and were intended to act as servants or minions for the deceased, should they be called upon to do manual labor in the afterlife. They were usually written on by the use of hieroglyphs typically found on the legs. They carried inscriptions asserting their readiness to answer the gods' summons to work.
