This limited edition watch is a faithful recreation of the original 1960s Vietnam designs, featuring a unique non-reflective PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) plating for covert operations. Originally produced by Benrus, Bulova, and Waltham, these watches were based on a US government specification from that era. While many original models used a 15 or 16 jewel movement, this updated version boasts a 24-jewel movement for improved accuracy.

Historical Inspiration

In January 2009, MWC was approached by a US veterans association to recreate a watch similar to those used during the Vietnam War. After examining samples and original specifications, the result was a watch very close to the original, using a high-grade fully jeweled mechanical movement. Following the success of this project, MWC was contacted again to create a limited edition model in black PVD steel. Original watches in mint condition are now rare and valuable, making this recreation a cost-effective way to own a piece of history, enhanced with a non-reflective PVD finish.

Superior PVD Plating

The special covert matte black non-reflective PVD finish on this watch is often specified in military contracts for special forces, anti-terrorist units, and covert operations. In the PVD process, the steel itself isn’t black throughout; instead, the color is achieved through a specialized chemical plating technique. This method is far superior to the painted finishes found on lower-quality watches, which tend to fade or wear off easily. The PVD process alters the steel at a molecular level, ensuring long-lasting durability even under heavy use. However, the finish can be damaged if the case is gouged by metal or subjected to severe abrasion against rocks or similar materials.
