You will still need to drain your pool water down but only to below the skimmer, not 5" below the return like most pools.The idea behind the creation of this devise is to save your pool and skimmer. If you have a Buster Crabbe pool your walls (in most cases) were made from wood. Since your pool is probably well aged you want to keep more pressure against the walls so they would be less likely to bow as the pool ages. The skimmer will be saved as well since no water can enter the skimmer and freeze.
