Gretzky’s first international appearance came at the 1978 World Junior Championships, while Team Canada would finish with a bronze medal that year Gretzky would lead the tournament in scoring with 17 points, the most ever scored by a 16-year-old in the World Junior Championships. Gretzky would lead the Canada Cup in scoring in 1981 and 1984 as he would lead Team Canada to the gold medal in the 1984, 1987, and 1991 Canada Cups. In 2013 Connor McDavid would play in the 2013 IIHF World U18 Championships, at 16 years old he was the youngest player in the tournament. McDavid would lead Canada to gold medals in 2013, 2015, and 2016. McDavid’s latest accomplishment came in the 2024 4 Nations Faceoff where he helped Team Canada to a championship, scoring the game winning goal in the championship game.
