The Craft: Carved Jade Pendant

This slender black sandalwood hair stick is topped with a carved jade ornament in green. The pendant consists of a carved Xiuyu jade flower with a spiral pattern, a small round Feicui jade bead below, and gold-toned copper connectors. The jade pieces are suspended from a small loop at the tip of the stick, allowing them to dangle naturally.

The floral carving on the jade is done by hand, giving each piece a slightly different expression. The gold-toned leaf-shaped element above the flower adds a subtle contrast.

The Materials

Black sandalwood is a dense, dark hardwood with a fine grain. It takes a high polish and is naturally resistant to moisture, though it should not be soaked. Xiuyu jade is a nephrite jade from Xiuyan County, Liaoning Province, known for its soft green tones. Feicui jade (jadeite) is harder and more translucent, often used for small accent beads.

Because these are natural materials, the jade may show slight variations in color, translucency, and grain. Small inclusions or color streaks are not defects but signs of genuine stone. The gold-toned copper plating may wear over time with frequent use.

Fit & Care

This stick works for all hair volumes, including very thick hair, thanks to the rigid sandalwood shaft. It is best suited for hair at least armpit length; shorter hair may not hold securely. If you have fine or shoulder-length hair, consider our short hair sticks for a better fit.
