Crystalline Glaze Workshop

NO MEMBER DISCOUNTS AVAILABLE

Macro crystalline glazes require a special firing schedule which is rarely offered through community studio spaces. If you’re curious to see what your work will look like with big glorious crystals, here’s your chance.

In this workshop you get a basic intro to what crystalline glazes are, a bit about the ideal firing atmosphere and support while glazing your own pieces. We will have 4 crystalline glazes made in house for your use.

Participants are invited to show up with bisque fired pots ready to glaze. Jackie will coach you in applying the glaze and attaching a drip catcher.

Each participant may bring 3 pots (option to glaze additional pieces if quantity of glaze allows), not exceeding 8”x8”x8” in size. Clay bodies must be light coloured mid temperature bisqueware made by the participant themselves. The firing may get higher than cone 6. Do not bring dark clay. Crystalline glazes are not suitable for food surfaces.

A food safe white glaze will be provided for lining interiors of bottle forms or drinking vessels.

Highly recommended forms are bottle and vase forms and decorative bowls. We will supply as many drip catchers as we can but you will be encouraged to create your own for best fit. Unconventional shapes will require your own custom drip catchers. We will communicate with you if you are unsure on how to make one.

After your pieces are out of the kiln, each piece will require grinding the bottom. The better your catcher fits, the less grinding you will have to do. The studio has a Dremel, but if you have a more powerful tool, you won't be sad.

You will need to make your own crystal catchers. You can see how to do that here!

Close...but not quite the length.
Size: XL (16 in), Style: 2 Knot Rope Bone, Size: XL (16 in), Style: 2 Knot Rope Bone
I will admit, I thought their picture was off, because when I saw 16" in the title I was expecting the distance between the knots to be 16 inches in length. So if you're looking for a good length tug-of-war rope for a medium to large dog, look somewhere else. I'm not returning it, it's good quality cotton rope asides that. My dog needs a new toy and cotton ones are harder to find. Next time I'm going to their amazon store directly to look for what I wanted though. I will buy from them again, I like the quality and the fact that, for once, cotton is actually cotton.

Great toy
Size: Small (9 in), Style: 2 Knot Rope Bone
I got this because my puppy chews through the other kinds of rope toys. This one is laying though. Only thing is, she's eating off the loose strings. Lol So she's pooping strings all the time

The strings on the end are super engaging and the rope itself holds up really well
Size: Small (9 in), Style: 2 Knot Rope Bone
Super cost effective way to redirect chewing!! Our 4 month old corgi quickly made this is favorite toy. He loves the strings on the side and tugs on it endlessly, and the main rope was pretty firm at first but has softened up while maintaining its strength. Highly recommend as an interactive toy or just something for your dog to chew on their own so you can take some time to chill on your own!

Not for aggressive chewers!
Size: Large (14 in), Style: 2 Knot Rope Bone
At first glance, this rope toy seemed sturdy and well made. However, within an hour of my Vizsla chewing on it, she had already bitten off and unfortunately swallowed several of the fringes. The center of the rope also began to unravel. This toy may be suitable for smaller dogs or those that aren’t aggressive chewers, but I wouldn’t recommend it for large dogs or heavy chewers. Additionally, while it may measure 14 inches before being knotted at the ends, the total length is shorter than advertised.

Two knots, Not 3…
Size: Large (14 in), Style: 2 Knot Rope Bone
Been subscribed & saving on 3 knot version for years. My dogs gnaw through the center knot and they quickly unravel. This 2 knot version seems to last much longer.
