We've cut it into spindles of 1 3 4" across and 8" long. The grain on this piece is long and straight, with swirls around small and infrequent burl buds. We have air dried this Texas Ebony log for 5+ years. Moisture content is 10 12%. Janka hardness is 2820 lbf. Density is 80 lb ft3. This wood is very dense and hard, one of the hardest available
| Texas Ebony Block TE-556 1.75" x 1.75" x 8" 1.2 lbs. This is a beautiful piece of Texas Ebony heartwood. We've cut it into spindles of 1 3/4" across and 8" long. The grain on this piece is long and straight, with swirls around small and infrequent burl buds. We have air-dried this Texas Ebony log for 5+ years. Moisture content is 10-12%. Janka hardness is 2820 lbf. Density is 80 lb/ft3. This wood is very dense and hard, one of the hardest available in North America. The finished products are exquisite. This block has some very minor end-grain checking (see close-up photo) and one crack that is larger. There is also a patch of softened heartwood in about 10% of this block; we've discounted because of the crack and the weathering. The weathered area is still firm but will need stabilization if you wish to turn it. |

Valuable perspective; moving; beautiful
Format: Hardcover
I loved this book. I devoured the entire thing in one sitting on a Sunday afternoon. It's a beautiful and tragic and warm story all at the same time. I feel like a lot of times when we hear about the Vietnam war in the United States, it's told from the perspective of American soldiers rather than the Southern Vietnamese who lost their home land. Really refreshing to see this diverse and nuanced perspective. I look forward to Thi Bui's future works.
