AKA Kid Dakota - began writing the songs for Denervation, his fifth full-length studio album, and first in over six years, while convalescing in a hospital bed in South Dakota in 2014. What began as a brief summer vacation at his parent's house in the Black Hills, turned into an extended nine month stay after he fractured his pelvis in a horrific bicycle accident. To cope with the crippling depression, Darren started writing the songs that would eventually constitute Denervation.

After making some rough recordings, Darren sent the demos to longtime friend and producer John Kuker, whom he had worked with on previous Kid Dakota recordings at Seedy Underbelly in Minneapolis, MN. John immediately recognized the raw potential in the demos and suggested that Darren come and make the album at Pachyderm, the fabled recording studio in Cannon Falls, MN that John had recently purchased and renovated. They spent two weeks woodshedding the new material before heading into Pachyderm in January of 2015.

After three days of tracking, they had the basics of Denervation in the bag and planned to finish the album at John's studio in Los Angeles that spring. Tragically, however, John died from a heart attack on February 2nd, and the record came to standstill. Born out of Darren's attempt to come to terms with the trauma of his bicycle accident, the album was now inexorably linked with the death of one of his best friends. It was only after getting married and moving back to Minneapolis in the summer of 2017 that Darren began to muster the fortitude to finish what John and he had begun over two years prior.

To aid him in this endeavor, Darren called upon both some long standing musical conspirators (Martin Dosh, Andrew Broder, and Alan Sparhawk), as well as some new (Johnny and Molly Solomon, Jeremy Ylvisaker, Jeremy Messersmith, Todd Trainer, and Dave Simonett). The result is a intensely personal record that addresses the subject of loss from diverse perspectives.

Great stuff
Seemed to work as well as or better than some more expensive catalytic converter cleaners. I put it in while at 1/3 tank and my Check Engine light went out almost immediately once I started driving. My Tundra has almost 230,000 miles and still runs great but was getting a little harder to start after I switched from full synthetic oil to conventional. I’ll never do that again and immediately switched back but the damage was done. Check engine light came on and I had to crank longer to get it started. Adding this Liquid Moly fixed both issues temporarily. I have to wonder if this was used regularly, say every 3 months, if it would clean the catalytic converter more permanently?

Nice Filter Wrench for my Volvo V70XC!
Size: 86mm x 16
I was needing a filter wrench for my 2001 Volvo V70XC and couldn't find anything that fit from the local auto parts stores. Not knowing what to expect, I took a chance on this one since most of the reviews were 5 star and the price was exceptional. When I received it, I was quite pleased with the construction and finish. I have a brand new oil filter housing for my Volvo (since the one currently on my car is chewed up from the former owner using slip-jaw pliers or something on it) and the fit is perfect! I have worked as a mechanic my whole life (aircraft & automotive), and spent a couple of years as a technician at an automotive dealership and I can say that the tool looks like it is designed for heavy-duty use. The stamped steel housing is thicker than those found in local auto parts stores and the drive adapter has a thick arc welded bead along the inside of the tool. So, it appears to be made to hold up to some fairly heavy torque. Although the product description states that it is 1/2", the drive adapter is actually made for direct attachment to a 3/8" drive. Perhaps this error stems from the fact that they offer a much larger wrench (118-131mm) and this is a more accurate description of their other offerings. The 3/8" drive adapter works perfectly and a 21mm socket fits nicely on the external hex. Fits with SAE sizes are a mixed bag, though. I was able to attach a 13/16" 12-pt. box-end wrench, but not the opposing open-end. A similarly sized 13/16" 6-pt. socket was extremely tight, so I wouldn't recommend this size and would just go with the 21mm if you had to use the external hex. Otherwise, just use the 3/8" drive adapter for easiest use of this tool. The adapter also incorporates ball detents on all four sides of the internal 3/8" drive, so your ratchet or extension won't easily fall off while in use. Since this tool is made for oil filter removal & installation, I'm sure that it will deliver as promised. I'll post an update after my next oil change and I get a chance to use it and install the new filter housing I have.
