First edition, no. 70 of 100 copies signed by the artist (from a total print run of 520), of Goldblatt’s monograph presenting his intimate portrait of South African society, issued with a gelatin silver print signed and numbered by the photographer.

In the early 1970s the documentary photographer turned his lens on ordinary fellow South Africans. Photographing in public spaces, he began to investigate the small details of posture and body language, capturing the subjects’ particular way of holding their bodies as reflections of their inner life. In his characteristic black and white, Goldblatt’s close cropped perceptive and sensitive view of his subjects allows their anonymity to be humanising.

One hundred signed copies of the Particulars were supplied with a choice of four gelatin silver prints of photographs from the original twenty-seven in the book. This copy is paired with a print of Woman Collecting Shellfish.
