Vintage 800 Silver Berber Wide Cuff Bracelet by Muhammad MakkawiA beautiful and well worn piece hand chased with Berber motifs by known silversmith Mohammad Makkawi. This maker is referenced in Azza Fahmi's book The Enchanted Jewelry of Egypt. The bracelet has a three part Egyptian hallmark identifying its composition as 80% silver, its origin as Cairo and that it was assayed between 1968 74. This type of bracelet was worn in Egypt (the Siwa Oasis), Tunisia, and Libya, commonly in pairs, but I only have this one.
A beautiful and well-worn piece hand-chased with Berber motifs by known silversmith Mohammad Makkawi. This maker is referenced in Azza Fahmi's book The Enchanted Jewelry of Egypt. The bracelet has a three-part Egyptian hallmark identifying its composition as 80% silver, its origin as Cairo and that it was assayed between 1968-74. This type of bracelet was worn in Egypt (the Siwa Oasis), Tunisia, and Libya, commonly in pairs, but I only have this one. The bracelet is signed on the inside with two Tughras as well as Mohammad Mohammad Makkawi's stamp.
The bracelet is in good vintage condition with nice wear.
