The Chinese Elm tree is capable of growing to immense sizes, reaching heights of 50-75 feet and widths of up to 30 feet. It is highly renowned for its resilience and ability to develop new buds throughout the growing season, making it an ideal choice for frequent trimming as a bonsai plant.
Leaves: The leaves are green, glossy, oval, and have serrated edges. The leaves grow between 1”-2” but can be reduced to 0.75”-1”. Due to their semi-deciduous state, they have been known to have yellow, orange or red leaves in the fall prior to going through a short dormant season.
Flowers: Although uncommon as a bonsai, the Chinese Elm produces small, clustered flowers in the spring. These inconspicuous blooms are typically yellowish green.
Sun Requirement: Full Sun-Part Shade
Watering Requirements: Water the soil thoroughly to help saturate the entire substrate. Water frequently and keep the soil slightly moist, not soaking, take care to not let the root ball dry out completely
