This block has subtle, attractive grain patterns, which includes darker streaks and knots. It is lightly spalted with "white rot" style spalting. This wood has been carefully air-dried to 10-12% moisture content. There are some drying cracks present that we recommend you fill with CA glue prior to or during turning. See photos for close-ups on the cracks in this block. This piece has a sliver of bark / wane along one face. Pear wood typically has a fine and even grain pattern, which can result in a smooth and attractive surface when turned. This fine grain allows for intricate details and clean cuts. It is delightful to turn! |
