From growing up riding a Mongoose bmx bike around our childhood neighborhood and jumping off curb cuts to out later obsession with all things fixed gear and now our recent fixation with 80s and 90s commuter/gravel bike builds, we have always loved bicycles of all forms.
Our love for bikes has grown throughout the years as we geeked out over the beautiful details of hand made racing frames from Japan or as we obsessed over innovation in bike geometry for trick riding.
What we love even more about bikes is their ability to get us outdoors in a healthy way that connects us to our surroundings and people around us. The communities, friendships and memories we have formed through biking are important to us and we wanted to celebrate our love for bikes by making this bicycle inspired hat design.
The GRAVEL decal hat is inspired by the simplistic and unique down tube decals on bike frames. (If you're a bike nerd like ourselves, you'll notice the Yamaguchi logo influence is heavy in this graphic).
The choice of the word GRAVEL goes further than our newfound enjoyment for gravel bikes but also just our love of being outdoors. Whether biking, hiking, or rock climbing the physical connection between earth and your tires or feet or hands is a freeing feeling we can’t quite accurately describe but we feel the word gravel zooms in on that connection point between the human body and the earth surface. For the colorways we were influenced by colors you would find on old 80s to 90s mountain bike frames like those of Marin, Specialized, and GT.
