100 series Taylor guitars feature a layered Walnut back and side tonewood complement. Layered wood, while not producing as complex of a tone as solid wood, is less susceptible to weather damage. A Taylor with layered back and sides may be the preferred choice for a gigging musician who wants a dependable instrument that he/she may feel less worried about receiving road rash. In this case, the 110CE features a Poplar core with inside and outside layers of Walnut.

The 110CE features a Dreadnought body shape (denoted by the third number “0” in its title) with a cutaway and electronics (hence, “CE”).
