On White II (Auf Weiss II) is an Early Modernist oil on canvas painting created by Wassily Kandinsky in 1923. As seen in the television series Friends, in Chandler Bing's office.
In the absence of writings by Kandinsky about "On White II," certain facts shed light on its creation. Known as "Auf Weiss II" in German, the painting was created by Wassily Kandinsky during his stay in Weimar between February and April of 1923. Concurrently teaching design theory at the Bauhaus school and authoring "Point and Line to Plane," Kandinsky displayed the canvas in his dining room upon his return to the Bauhaus in Dessau, indicating his satisfaction with the work. While the exact meaning of "On White II" remains elusive, Kandinsky's attachment to it speaks volumes about its significance.
