50年代より西海岸の若者たちを中心に急速に広まった「禅」の思想。ジャック・ケルアックの「禅ヒッピー（原題：ダルマ・バムズ）」、ゲイリー・スナイダーの「終わりなき山河」、アラン・ワッツの哲学などは、そこから派生したと言えるだろう。ミュージシャンのロビー・バショウは、自らを松尾芭蕉の生まれ変わりだと悟り、名前をバショウに変えてしまったほどだ。詩人であり、ハイカーとしても数々の功績を残したフェルナンド・ワンティーは、「俳句」と「ハイク」を融合させた。来日を重ねるごとに日本とその文化への知見が深めたフェルナンドが愛したものの１つが日本の入浴習慣だった。下山後はその土地土地の秘湯を求め歩き、吟行を嗜んだという。それは文字通り「俳句」と「ハイク」の融合であった。銭湯にも足繁く通い、その場で居合わせた人々と句会を楽しんだ。このアートワークはThe Himalayan Race出走に向けスポンサーを募った際、フェルナンドが都内の銭湯の壁に実際に描いたアートワークと広告を忠実に再現したものである。
