Dit Nieuw brievenboek presenteert brieven van Coornhert om zijn denk- en leefwereld naderbij te brengen. Ook J.A. Colom gaf in 1626 brieven van Coornhert uit als boek met een boodschap (Brieven-boeck. Inhoudende hondert brieven van D.V. Coornhert). Coornhert correspondeert met familieleden, vrienden, bestuurders, predikanten en geleerden. Zijn brieven gaan zelden over privé-aangelegenheden en zijn meestal ook niet enkel voor de geadresseerde bedoeld. Onderwerp zijn religieuze vraagstukken en de religiepolitieke actualiteit. Coornhert verdedigt een eigen geloofsopvatting en botst vooral hard met de gereformeerde orthodoxie: hij wijst de erfzonde af en acht menselijke volmaaktheid mogelijk. Ook klaagt hij bitter over het gebrek aan godsdienstvrijheid. Hij meent dat gewetensvrijheid zonder godsdienstvrijheid loos is en dat de politieke voorkeursbehandeling van de gereformeerde godsdienst en de achterstelling van de andere godsdiensten verraad  aan de opstand betekenen. Bijgevolg botst hij ook met bestuurders van het nieuwe regiem. Uit zijn brieven blijkt duidelijk dat hij volle godsdienstvrijheid voorstaat, maar ook dat hij deze vrijheid op religieuze gronden verdedigt.

I love this type of story. And omegaverse is one of my all time favorite genres. But there are a few things that pulled me out of my enjoyment while I was reading. It was repetitive at times as well as struggled with telling not showing. So we didn’t always feel like we were experiencing things with the main character. There were also some plot holes but they may still be answered in part 2. Now this isn’t to be said I didn’t enjoy parts of the story. I loved the almost instant love between Mila and Oliver. And how he started changing around her.
