Under the Big Black Sun is het derde studioalbum van de Amerikaanse rockband X en werd uitgebracht in 1982. Het is misschien wel hun beste plaat. Alle 11 nummers zijn uitzonderlijk, zowel qua uitvoering als qua compositie. Voordat het album werd opgenomen, werd de zus van zangeres Exene Cervenka vermoord door een dronken chauffeur, en de band besloot hun verdriet in de muziek te verwerken, wat uiteindelijk resulteerde in twee van de beste nummers van het album: het melodieuze "Riding With Mary" en het vintage jaren 50-geluid van "Come Back to Me".
