Gudin maakte naam door zijn dramatische weergaven van zeeslagen, schepen en kustlandschappen, vaak met een romantische flair.

Na zijn opleiding aan de École des Beaux-Arts in Parijs onder leiding van Antoine-Jean Gros, won Gudin al snel lof en werd hij een favoriete schilder van koning Lodewijk XVIII. Zijn werk werd regelmatig tentoongesteld op de Parijse salons, en hij kreeg prestigieuze opdrachten, waaronder werken voor het paleis van Versailles en het Louvre.

Naast zijn artistieke successen had Gudin een tumultueus persoonlijk leven en diende hij korte tijd in de Franse marine. Zijn schilderijen zijn vaak geroemd om hun nauwkeurigheid en expressieve kracht, wat hem tot een toonaangevende figuur in de 19e-eeuwse maritieme kunst maakte.

If the set screws were white the shelves would be perfect.

I'd give 4 1/2 if there was one. The shelves thwmself are nice I just don't like the visible little black set screws. The shelves themself look great and are not wobbly at all if you install correctly. I purposely installed the bracket upside down because of the little black setting screws; I didnt want them showing because the shelves are above eye level and the screws are black and I didn't want them showing. But that made the shelf lean amd wobbly so I turned them back over the way they are supposed to be and that made them level and sturdy. I guess I'll paint the little screws.
