Verenfeest Een kleurrijk kaartspel voor het hele gezin. Het is feest op het eiland! Bij dit feest worden 5 verschillende houten maskers versierd. Het mooist versierde masker zal geluk en fortuin brengen voor degene die het gemaakt heeft. Iedereen versiert samen alle maskers, en wil natuurlijk zijn eigen masker zo mooi mogelijk maken, maar je wilt voorkomen dat anderen doorhebben welk masker van jou is, zodat de mooiste veren uiteindelijk bij jouw masker belanden. De spelers spelen kaarten met gekleurde of zwarte veren door ze bij een van de vijf maskers te plaatsen. Ze weten niet van elkaar wie welk masker heeft, maar daar willen ze wel achter komen. Weten ze het goed te raden, dan krijgen ze daar bonuspunten voor en als iedereen een masker goed weet te raden, verliest de speler van wie dat masker was.

Uiteindelijk wint de speler wiens masker de meeste punten waard is en waarvan de minste spelers hebben kunnen raden van wie het masker is. Versier de maskers op het eiland, maskeer jezelf en pak je geluk! Waarom wil je dit spelen? - Een tactisch spel. I liked the worlds and the characters. The prophesy is confusing in that I would think, since all worlds ore on a path to destruction, the angels would want their world to be saved. I am sure there is more evil that will be revealed as the series proceeds. I dislike a prolonged “poor little me” trope and the main character has moved past that, thankfully, and began to show a fierce attitude as the novel progressed. The last portion of the novel had some great action. It’s worth reading, just be patient with a slow start.

This book packs an emotional punch, especially if you’ve experienced childhood trauma (particularly abuse and/or neglect). Alexandra creates these three strong protectors who love her and will do anything to make her feel happy and safe. She started out drawing them when she was a small child, and then transitioned to stories as she grew up. Lucien, Elwin, and Kylo look frightening in their monster forms, but it’s clear that they would never hurt Alexandra, and she has never felt afraid of them. They have very distinct personalities that we get to know better throughout the book. The love and devotion they have for Alexandra is sweet and unwavering. This is a fantastic and creative story! The world-building is wonderful - it’s a shared world with M. Sinclair, and takes place at a university for supernatural beings. The additional world-building within Alexandra’s story added even more depth and intrigue. The spicy times were 🥵 and it’s more of a medium burn, but it works with the characters and I expect that it’ll pick up quite a bit in the next books. Monsters Within has a unique way of addressing mental health issues that can come from being abused and neglected. There are some flashbacks to Alexandra’s childhood that provide some insight but they don’t go into heavy details. I absolutely adored this book and can’t wait for more!
