Wat is liposomaal ijzer en hoe werkt de liposomale matrix?

Liposomen zijn kleine bolletjes opgebouwd uit fosfolipiden, de bouwstenen van celmembranen. Bij liposomaal ijzer wordt ferrobisglycinaat ingekapseld in deze fosfolipiden uit zonnebloemlecithine. De vetachtige bolletjes beschermen het ijzer tijdens de passage door de maag en transporteren het richting de darmwand. Dit onderscheidt liposomaal ijzer van standaard ijzerzouten zoals ijzersulfaat, waarbij deze beschermende laag ontbreekt.

Ferrobisglycinaat versus ijzersulfaat en andere ijzervormen

Er zijn veel ijzervormen op de markt. IJzersulfaat is een klassiek ijzerzout dat veel wordt gebruikt in reguliere supplementen. Ferrobisglycinaat is een chelaatvorm waarbij het ijzer gebonden is aan twee glycinemoleculen. Deze binding helpt het mineraal stabiel te blijven in de darm en minder te reageren met remmende voedingsstoffen zoals koffie, thee of vezels. Gecombineerd met een liposomale drager blijft de grondstof stabiel in de capsule.

IJzer uit voeding versus suppletie

Goede voedingsbronnen van ijzer zijn rood vlees, lever, donkere chocolade en volkoren granen. Plantaardige bronnen zoals peulvruchten en spinazie bevatten ook ijzer, maar de opname hiervan kan worden beïnvloed door fytinezuur en oxaalzuur in planten. Wie tijdelijk extra ijzerinname wenst, kan suppletie overwegen. Eén capsule per dag na een maaltijd met een glas water volstaat als dagelijkse aanvulling. Vermijd gelijktijdige inname met koffie, thee of zuivel.
