De geur van manuka olie is bijzonder en onmiskenbaar: kruidig, gronderig en enigszins dierlijk. De olie is niet zo geschikt voor het lampje, maar is daarentegen een zeer goede olie op de huid. Een van de sterkste schimmeldodende oliën (candida, zwemmerseczeem) en kan een hulp zijn bij het kalmeren van een jeukende en rode huid. In een shampoo kan manuka de bekendere tea tree vervangen bij hoofdluis.
