Blad en bloei Japanse Storaxboom - Styrax japonicus 'Snowcone'

Deze bladverliezende boom bereikt een hoogte van 5 tot 8 meter en heeft een brede, vaasvormige kroon. De bladeren zijn donkergroen, ovaal en glanzend, en verkleuren in de herfst naar geel. In mei en juni bloeit de boom rijkelijk met kleine, klokvormige witte bloemen die in trossen hangen. De bloemen verspreiden een subtiele, zoete geur en trekken bijen en andere bestuivers aan. Na de bloei vormen zich kleine, groenige steenvruchten.

Standplaats voor deze compacte boom

Deze wit bloeiende Japanse storaxboom komt oorspronkelijk uit Oost-Azië en gedijt het best op een zonnige tot halfschaduwrijke plek in goed doorlatende, vochtige en lichtzure grond. Hij is goed winterhard en kan lichte droogte verdragen, maar prefereert een standplaats met voldoende vocht. Regelmatige snoei is niet noodzakelijk, behalve om de vorm te behouden of dode takken te verwijderen.
