Om te slagen in War Chest, moet je niet alleen je legers op het slagveld succesvol beheren, maar ook degenen die wachten om te worden ingezet. Elke ronde trek je drie eenheidsmunten uit je tas en gebruik ze om de beurt om acties uit te voeren. Elke munt toont aan één kant een militaire eenheid en kan voor een van de verschillende acties worden gebruikt. Het spel eindigt wanneer één speler — of één team in het geval van een spel met vier spelers — al zijn controlemarkeringen heeft geplaatst. Die speler of dat team wint!
