It's sturdy enough to withstand his scratching and chewing. My big dog likes it too. The size is perfect for food oriented cats too. My cat is too lazy to work for his food though. This feeder will surely make your dogs work for their food.

I recently tried this slow feeder (I purchased 2 feeders) for my two Corgis (25 & 30 lbs.). Overall, it’s a well-constructed product and definitely slows down eating as intended. The design encourages dogs to work for their food, which helps with digestion and keeps them engaged. That said, there are a couple of challenges I noticed. The kibble sometimes gets jammed in the sliding doors, which can make it harder for my pups to access the food. Also, the feeder doesn’t hold a large amount of kibble—I found myself needing to refill it 2–3 times per meal to accommodate both of my dogs. Finally, my pups had a tougher time reaching the kibble in the middle ring, which caused a bit of frustration. Despite these issues, it’s sturdy, safe, and does the job of slowing down fast eaters. I think it could work especially well for smaller dogs or those who eat less at mealtime.
