De Catalpa bignonioides 'Nana', ook wel Bolcatalpa genoemd, is een sierlijke, bladverliezende boom met een bolvormige kroon en grote, frisgroene bladeren. Deze variant van ongeveer 180-200 cm hoog is perfect geschikt voor kleine tot middelgrote tuinen waar een decoratieve en onderhoudsvriendelijke boom gewenst is.

De 'Nana' groeit langzaam en behoudt een compacte vorm, waardoor hij weinig snoei nodig heeft. Dankzij het ontbreken van bloemen en zaaddozen is deze boom zeer proper en ideaal voor plaatsing bij terrassen, opritten of in de voortuin.

Deze bolboom houdt van een zonnige tot halfschaduwrijke standplaats en groeit het best in voedzame, goed doorlatende grond. De Catalpa 'Nana' is goed winterhard en bestand tegen stedelijke invloeden, zoals luchtvervuiling.
