Weingut Rappenhof

Weingut Rappenhof uit Alsheim in Rheinhessen, stamt uit 1604. De wijngaarden van de familie Hirsch-Muth staan niet alleen uit Alsheim maar ook in Guntersblum, Ludwigshöhe, Dienheim, Oppenheim en Nierstein. Volgens de officiële classificatie worden de wijnen ingedeeld in verschillende categorieën van laag naar hoog: Gutswein, Ortswein, Erste Lage en Grosse Lage. De laatste kun je vergelijken met een Grand Cru in de Bourgogne, de Erste Lage met een Premier Cru, de Ortswein met een Gigondas uit de Rhône en de Gutswein met een Beaujolais zonder aanduiding Villages.
Mooie vergelijking vind ik. Wordt alles meteen een stuk duidelijker. En op de cartouche van Rappenhof staan deze aanduidingen en eveneens op het achteretiket. Rheinhessen is een gebied waar de Main, de Nahe en de Selz in de Rijn stromen. De wijngaarden van Rappenhof liggen dicht tegen de Rijn. Wij kozen voor 2 Gutsweinen, een Erste Lage en een Grosse Lage.

Beautiful quality. Deep thick fur. The "patches" are noting more than where 4 or 5 inch splits, one at each end were stitched back together. I wouldn't have even called them patches. They are the same stitching as used to join the two pelts in the middle. The color is a very clean white. Being natural pelt, I was really expecting something a little more blond. I've bought New Zealand sheepskin several times before and I don't doubt this is Aussie or Kiwi sheepskin but I didn't notice this is processed in China before I bought it. Still, the only complaint I had was a strange chemical smell when I unwrapped it. It didn't smell like the tanning chemicals from previous pelts. But it's gone away after 3 weeks so I guess all's good.

On the fence? This is the sheepskin to get!

I've been reading all the reviews for sheepskins on AMZ and felt this company was the one to go for and WOW did they deliver! The sheepskin came well wrapped but not vacuum packed and is even prettier in person than the pictures. It is super soft, fluffy and dense and mine measured 26" x 40". I absolutely love the wolf tipped colors: ivory, dark grey and a slight brownish hue. There is a slight odor but I don't find it offensive. It stayed put on my leather couch and sitting on it during a Netflix movie was heavenly warm and comfortable. I did not observe any shedding.
