Erythraea — Vintage Oushak Wool Area RugMeasuring 6 ft 7 in x 4 ft 11 in (200 cm x 150 cm) this is a Handmade Turkish Oushak (Usak) rug woven in rich shades of Blue, Grey, Beige, Cream and Gold and based on original 16th Century designs and woven in Usak, Western Anatolia by Tribal Weavers up to 40 to 60 years ago. More recent productions replicate the designs of the Ottoman Palace Era and are characterised by subtle, stylised floral motifs on a single color, shaded, patina like background.

These rugs are typically woven with high quality sheep/lamb wool on a cotton base which allows for extremely tightly-woven, delicate designs to be achieved. Special wool dyeing and pile knotting/shaving techniques are employed to produce the effect of lighter or darker appearance depending on orientation of the rug to the light.
