The main concept was based on this premise; The year is 1981, and Ginger Root is asked to make the soundtrack to the American adaptation to the fictitious Japanese film “街のやつ” (Machi No Yatsu).The sonic pallet and look of the music videos are intended to invoke those eras both musically and visually. ‘Loretta’ was an immediate hit among old fans and new ones who found the song from its YouTube popularity. The Music video took off and has now amassed 18 million views and the single has been streamed over 33 million times. During the pandemic, Lew learned to speak Japanese fluently and only consumed Japanese music, movies, and other media. Now with over ten thousand records sold and many more cult followers, City Slicker, made Ginger Root into a global indie star."
