The deep recess in the base is one of the many distinctive design aspects that set these chessmen apart. The tapered shanks are a neat change from the usual curves of Staunton chess pieces.

Sheesham is a rich, exotic wood with deep grains and a lovely golden colour. A variation of rosewood, its density allows for the carvings of these chessmen to retain extremely fine detail and smoothness, whilst the lighter boxwood needs no introduction for its premium quality and robustness. The boxwood used in these particular chessmen has been carefully selected for clean and crisp grains and a pale colour.

We have matched these ample pieces with a lovely 55.1cm walnut and maple deluxe chessboard. Walnut has a particularly dense grain and is rich in colour. This superb quality large chessboard is produced by Rechapados Ferrer S.A of Spain. High-grade walnut and maple veneered construction is used throughout, including on the board's base.
