These designs are burned into the leather. If you accidentally smudge soot onto the leather, use a piece of tape to lay over the smudge and gently lift away. Because these ornaments are made from genuine leather, natural color variations will occur, making each piece unique. Over time, the leather will naturally darken with age and sun exposure, adding to its character.
