The layering gives the stone its characteristic bandings of red/beige or red/brown. These form on different patterns, including straight lines, waves, and spots. The black lines gave it its name. It is also known as Zebra Jasper, Zebra Marble and Zebra Agate. It was first discovered in Kununurra, in Western Australia.
