Story
Part of Roy's 1985 cheque series.
In 1985, Roy was commissioned by a Canadian bank to create a series of four background images for bank cheques. Because they were to be used as cheques, the dimensions had to match a standard cheque shape, and the palette had to be softer than his usual bold colour work to avoid overpowering the information on the cheques.
Roy remembers when he was a kid trapping with his grandfather, Henry Vickers, in the winter. The snow would be too deep for him to go set the traps, so his grandfather left Roy in the boat while he went instead. Now, footprints in the snow always remind him of his grandfather.
