Even if an immediate effect does not take place, eventually the Cascara will tone and strengthen the bowel and effect normal function. Therefore, if you are looking for a strong, one- time laxative, choose Turkey Rhubarb or some other cathartic, instead of Cascara Sagrada. Cascara acts wonderfully to tone the entire alimentary canal, increasing the secretions of the stomach, liver, pancreas and lower bowels. It is also most beneficial to the gall ducts, and relieves liver complaints, especially enlarged liver.
