War Machine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is Lt. Col. James Rhodes, Tony Stark’s best friend. Played by actor Don Cheadle. Rhodes, after confiscating the Mark II armor in the movie Iron Man 2 (2010) receives a new model from Justin Hammer, created from this second version, with an improved war system filled with weapons of great firepower, he takes over the codenamed Combat Machine.

Cheadle returns as Rhodes in Iron Man 3 (2013), in which his armor receives a painting in the colors of the American flag, with the idea of gaining greater support from the majority of public opinion, he changes his code name to Patriot from Iron. In Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Rhodes returns to the Battle Machine identity, reappearing in Captain America: Civil War (2016) where he accidentally ends up seriously injured. Rhodes recovers and regrets the position he took in Civil War, now he joins forces with Captain America and his allies to fight Thanos’ forces in ”Avengers: Infinity War”.
