Description

PCM Erwin - 2 Meter Slope GliderThe Erwin is a great all rounder slope glider that tracks like it's on rails. Think top end sports model. The roll rate is on par with a quick 60 inch when the ailerons and flaps are coupled. The airframe slips through the air with ease, retaining it's energy very well. The Erwin can also crack a good race turn demonstrating very good grip. Some people even dynamic soar the Erwin although the manufacturer recommends keeping it at sport speeds; 200mph

The Erwin is a great all-rounder slope glider that tracks like it's on rails. Think top-end sports model. The roll rate is on par with a quick 60 inch when the ailerons and flaps are coupled. The airframe slips through the air with ease, retaining it's energy very well. The Erwin can also crack a good race turn demonstrating very good grip. Some people even dynamic soar the Erwin although the manufacturer recommends keeping it at sport speeds; 200mph and under. The wing control surfaces are all bottomed hinged and top driven to provide slop free controls, the gap seals and wipers produce a nice whine on fast fly-bys.

Construction is primarily of twill weave carbon fabrics. The layup results in parts weights that are perfect for sloping. There are double wing spar joiners that do the heavy lifting. The kit is supplied with 3 wing joiners, 2 made of steel and one made of carbon. Run both steels on heavy days and replace one with the carbon on medium days or use just the single carbon joiner on light days to reduce the overall weight of the ship. There is a space between the two joiner tubes in the wing root that can be opened up and a additional ballast tube can be added there if the builder desires.

The hardware kit supplied with the Erwin contains; fuselage servo tray and associated bits, FG control horns, ball links and metal tubes for making the v-tail pushrods, carbon fiber servo covers and cap screws to fasten the v-tail. The Erwin also comes with wing bags. The kit is very complete and the craftsmanship is excellent.

The Erwin is an outstanding design and has been well proven over the years.

Peruse the build instructions here.

We recommend 10mm thick servos for the wings.

Answers Many Questions about Naval Developments
Format: Hardcover
The history offers a detailed and well organized account of the Royal Navy as it transitioned from sail to steam. Coverage included personalities, technology, tactics and strategy. The combination provided a complete appreciation of the dynamics at play, some unexpectedly. The details might be a bit much for a casual reader but offered plenty of avenues for research not available or compiled in one source. I look forward to the final volume, which should describe another watershed era.

Great Book with a different perspective
Format: Hardcover
This will be a short review of a very long book. I ordered the book expecting more of a history of the British Navy, but this is more of a history of Britain with respect to its navy. It is still excellent and authoritative, just different than I expected. I really appreciate a somewhat different perspective than I have found in some other books. For example, any discussion of Jackie Fisher I have read previously seemed to border on the hagiographic, whereas here he seems to get a very evenhanded appraisal. A great book, highly recommended.
