Green Slimer Acropora is a classic, fast-growing staghorn known for intense neon green coloration and unusually long, stringy mucus production when handled. It’s hardy, fast, and great for aquaculture.
Lighting
Moderate to high light, usually 250 to 350 PAR. The green stays brightest under strong, stable lighting. It doesn’t need extreme intensity to look good, but it loses color if shaded.
Flow
High, random, and swirling. This species grows thick, fast branches that need consistent crossfire flow to keep detritus off and maintain polyp extension. Direct, laminar jets can erode the base over time.
Placement
Upper rockwork with plenty of vertical space. Slimer grows fast and tall like a tree, so keep it away from the surface unless you want frequent trimming. Avoid placing it where it will shade slower SPS.
Water parameters
Classic SPS stability applies.
Calcium around 420.
Alkalinity around 8 to 8.5.
Magnesium near 1350.
Nitrate 5 to 15.
Phosphate 0.04 to 0.1.
It tolerates slight nutrient swings better than many acros but still reacts badly to alkalinity instability.
Feeding
Depends mainly on light. Occasional amino acids can boost richness in color. No need for target feeding.
Growth behavior
Very fast. It encrusts rapidly then shoots up long, sturdy branches. Fragging is easy due to its thick structure. Colonies can grow huge in a short time if not trimmed.
Sensitivities
Vulnerable to AEFW if present, though its fast growth makes early damage easier to spot. Also shows quick response to alk swings through burnt tips. Tissue is slightly more delicate than some staghorns when bumped or moved.
Compatibility
Peaceful coral but can quickly overshadow neighbors through sheer growth and shading. Best placed where it won’t crowd out slower species.
