Kyoto, formerly the imperial capital where royalty held court for over 1000 years, is one of Japan's most beautiful cities. In the 21st century Kyoto remains the cultural capital with over 2000 temples and shrines.

Featuring:
  • Kyoto Train Station
  • 400 year old Nishiki Market
  • Gion Teahouses and Arashiama District Gardens including Tenru-ji Zen Temple and Garden
  • Moss Garden and Bamboo Forest
Remarkably, twenty percent of Kyoto's population is involved in the kimono industry making and displaying a wide variety of kimonos, with the most expensive and elaborate going to the traditional female Japanese entertainers- Geisha, Geiko and Maiko (Geisha in training).

Maiko serve a several year apprenticeship and the viewer is introduced to one of these extraordinary young ladies. Cherry Blossoms are Japan's unofficial national flower. It has been celebrated for many centuries and holds a very prominent position in Japanese culture. Most of the cherry tree varieties only bloom for a couple of days in spring and festivals abound! Himeji Castle was never destroyed by war, earthquake or fire and survives in its original form today.

It is considered one of three fine examples of Japanese Castle architecture in the world and is both a national treasure and a UNESCO world heritage site. Hiroshima is a graphic reminder of the costs of nuclear war.  Miyajima Island (Shrine Island), once the sole bastion of holy men, is now a popular resort destination with several sites of historic significance, roaming deer and monkeys atop 1700' Mount Misan.

DVDHD16 REVIEW: Discoveries...Asia: Japan - Kyoto and Western Honshu Island
This addition to Jim and Kelly Watt's high-def filmed Discoveries Asia travelogue series explores the "cultural capital" of Kyoto and nearby Honshu Island.

Featuring clips of temples and shrines (Kyoto boasts over 2000, including a famed 14th-century temple at Tenru-ji), various nature spots (including a look at a garden w/ 22 different kinds of moss, as well as a segment on cherry blossoms - the symbolic flower of samurais because "they know when to die"), and the modern train station built in celebration of Kyoto's 1200th anniversary, Kyoto and Western Honshu Island also offers viewers behind-the-scenes peeks at the life of a geisha, the kimono industry (fro creation to fashion shows), the floating Otorii gate UNESCO world heritage site, and monuments at Hiroshima. Recommended.

Great chew toy for large dogs
Size: X-Large
We had this before but it was brown. The green is easier to see on the floor so we don’t step on it. It’s worse than stepping on a Lego! Our Goldador, Bailey, loves it.

Fantastic bone for my Lab!
Flavor Name: Bacon, Size: XL - 2 Pack
My chocolate lab loves these!! He is not an aggressive chewer, and so they last a while. I’ve bought them numerous times and keep them on hand. Love that it’s safe for them to digest. Bacon flavor is his favorite. They don’t stink at all (some other brands do), and they don’t make a mess. Fantastic bone for my boy :-)

Fabulous Lasting Chew Bone
Flavor Name: Bacon, Size: Large - 3 Pack
I can no longer get the Deerhorns they loved, so I have been buying these. They are so excited when I open a new package and give it to them. They like all sizes. They place their feet on the handles and hold it, making it easier for them to chew on them. They are a little less expensive if I visit a local Walmart store. The problem is that they are often out or not stocked.
