Bach Classic Trumpet Mouthpiece Overview

The Bach Classic mouthpiece is a silver-plated trumpet mouthpiece designed for all-around Bb trumpet playing. As a genuine Vincent Bach mouthpiece, it is built to support consistent intonation, clear response across registers, and a uniform tonal color that many professional trumpet players rely on in both ensemble and solo settings.

Bach Mouthpiece Sizing System

The Numbers (Cup Diameter)

In the Bach system, numbers represent the inside diameter of the cup. The numbering is inversely proportional—smaller numbers indicate a wider diameter, while larger numbers mean a narrower diameter.
  • 1 to 3: Very wide cups, typically preferred by advanced players with strong embouchures.
  • 5 to 7: Medium, standard sizes. For example, the Bach Standard Series Trumpet Mouthpiece 7C is the most widely used student model in the world.
  • 10 to 20: Narrower cups, often easier for beginners or players with smaller mouths

The Letters (Cup Depth)

Letters are appended to the number to indicate how deep the mouthpiece cup is, running from the deepest to the shallowest.
  • A: Very deep.
  • B: Deep (dark, warm, orchestral tone).
  • C: Medium cup (standard, balanced all-around playing).
  • D: Medium-shallow (brilliant tone, aids upper register).
  • E & F: Shallow/Extra-shallow (used for high-note "lead" playing or piccolo trumpets

Special Suffixes

You might occasionally see extra letters modifying the size:
  • W: Wide, cushioned rim (ideal for players with thicker or softer lips).
  • V: Very deep "V-shaped" cup (similar to a cornet or flugelhorn sound).

Common Questions about the Bach Classic Mouthpiece

Is this mouthpiece suitable for professional use?

Yes. Genuine Vincent Bach mouthpieces are standard equipment for many professional trumpet players, and a common choice for players who need a dependable, broadly versatile setup.

Do these mouthpieces require special care?

Bach Classic mouthpieces are typically silver-plated. To prevent them from tarnishing or scratching, clean them with warm water and a little mild soap, and store them in a protective pouch when not in your instrument case.

How does the rim shape affect my playing?

The shape of the rim highly influences comfort and endurance.
  • Wide Rim: Increases endurance and distributes pressure better
  • Narrow Rim: Improves flexibility and upper-register range
  • Round Rim: Provides more overall comfort

doesn't whistle as loud as other chuckit balls I've seen, but a good ball.
makes some noise, but I've seen (and played with) others at the dog park that whistle much louder than the 1 I got. all Chuckit balls... so, just this one I'm betting. but it flys good and the dog loves to chase it. he chews it a fair bit as well and the ball has not taken much damage from him (lab mix) or others that have had a go at it. I'll likely buy another at some point ... just wish it was a little louder when flying.

Blue ball, my dog likes blue.
Just a ball right? Evidently not! My dog won’t chase an orange chuck it ball or the glow in the dark ball- only the blue one 🤷🏼‍♀️

    Colorful, Sturdy & Great Value
    Color: Large Set of 4
Purchased for our two puppies when they were 2 months old and weighed about 14 pounds so theses balls were a little big for them to hold in their mouths but that didn't stop them from trying. While they did like these balls they much preferred softer soccer balls, the later of which did not hold up well at all. I had hoped they would play with these balls more when they were older but that hasn't happened 5 months later. I guess it's no fun if you can't tear the toy apart. Colors are very bright and they do enjoy chasing after them as long as I am the one rolling them across the room for them. Maybe when they progress to batting things with their paws they will start to do this for themselves.
