Dana’s torment begins when she suddenly vanishes on her 26th birthday from California, 1976, and is dragged through time to antebellum Maryland to rescue a boy named Rufus, heir to a slaveowner’s plantation. She soon realizes the purpose of her summons to the past: protect Rufus to ensure his assault of her Black ancestor so that she may one day be born. As she endures the traumas of slavery and the soul-crushing normalization of savagery, Dana fights to keep her autonomy and return to the present.
Blazing the trail for neo-slavery narratives like Colson Whitehead’s The Underground Railroad and Ta-Nehisi Coates’s The Water Dancer, Butler takes one of speculative fiction’s oldest tropes and infuses it with lasting depth and power. Dana not only experiences the cruelties of slavery on her skin but also grimly learns to accept it as a condition of her own existence in the present. “Where stories about American slavery are often gratuitous, reducing its horror to explicit violence and brutality, Kindred is controlled and precise” (New York Times).

This is advertised for men, but I bought it for myself and absolutely love it! It’s very cute, lightweight and slim to just slip in your pocket for a quick run in instead of bringing your whole billfold. Good quality and cute design! Fits 2 cards on each side and has pocket in the middle for cash.

Card holder yes, 'wallet' not so much, and it has a 'weathered' look as shown in their pictures.

This little card holder feels pretty tough, and the card slots are tight. I could fit 5 cards into it--4 in the outside slots and 1 in the pocket in the middle. I was hoping that I could use it as a wallet and not just a card holder, but the pocket in the middle is very tight just like the other 4 slots on the outside, and you CAN stuff money in there but it's not very convenient to get it out. Thier claim of "...providing efficient organization and easy access to all your essential cards and cash" is a bit of a stretch, because if you have cards in the 4 outer slots the middle pocket becomes very tight, and not convenient or enjoyable to put cash in and harder to get it out.
I got the striped multicolor version, and it looks really nice and cool, though they might have described it as 'vintage' or having a 'worn' look, as it sort of seems like it's been weathered or used. You can see this for yourself in the pictures they provide on the product page--there are those little white spots on it, as if it is old and worn. Still looks cool but I thought I would mention it, so you know what you are getting.
I gave it only 4 Stars mainly because I was hoping it could be used better as a wallet and not just a card holder, and the middle pocket is a bit too tight for it to function that way in my opinion, but also because of its 'worn' look, as I was expecting it to look more 'brand new' and not so weathered.
